The Foundation for Technological Innovation (FIT) and the technology transfer office UNIL-CHUV (PACTT) have awarded two CHF 100,000 ‘InnoTREK’ grants: the first to Dr Shanaz Diessler for her project Sleep Sensor, which monitors and identifies sleep parameters, and the second to Dr Amalric Ortlieb for his innovative exoskeleton project, Autonomyo. These grants InnoTREK will enable both project leaders to work on their projects for one year. Monitoring and improving sleep with ‘
Sleep Sensor
’
Dr Shanaz Diessler’s ‘Sleep Sensor
’ project is a new system for measuring sleep parameters using a film made up of various sensors and placed on the mattress. The award of the ‘InnoTREK
’ grant to Sleep Sensor
will enable the system to be further developed and tested on human subjects.
With this further development, the aim is to achieve clinical validation, to facilitate the transport and use of the sensor system, and to reduce its cost to make it accessible to more patients.
The project originated at the Centre for Integrative Genomics (CIG) at theUNIL
under Professor Paul Franken. Dr Shanaz Diessler will work in this laboratory for the duration of her fellowship and will also receive support from the Sleep Centre at the CHUV
.
At the end of this year-long fellowship InnoTREK
, Dr Shanaz Diessler will be better placed to launch her start-up.
Regaining mobility thanks to Autonomyo’s exoskeleton
Autonomyo
is developing an innovative exoskeleton; this smart therapeutic solution enables patients to regain some mobility following an accident that has caused neurological disorders. The first stage of the Autonomyo project was carried out at theEPFL
and has resulted in the filing of an initial patent application.
Dr Amalric Ortlieb will work in Professor Andrea Serino’s laboratory, within the Department of Neurology at theCHUV
, where he will be able to continue the development and clinical validation of this potential neuro-rehabilitation approach for patients.
InnoTREK
’s grant will contribute to the clinical development of Autonomyo and enable Dr Amalric Ortlieb to set up his start-up.
PACTT
is delighted with the commitment and drive shown by these two project leaders and wishes them every success in developing their technology and launching their start-up!
