Since the creation of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation HUB at theUNIL
in 2019, a fruitful collaboration has developed between the HUB and the PACTT
to support the entrepreneurial projects of researchers at theUNIL
and the CHUV
.

The HUB provides the entrepreneurial tools and expertise needed to support those with business ideas through its UCreate activation programmes. PACTT
, as part of its entrepreneurship-related activities, offers financial assistance through the ‘InnoTREK
’ grant, as well as support with intellectual property management and the creation of spin-offs for project leaders.

The HUB and the ‘PACTT
’, working together effectively, have already supported four projects from the ‘UNIL
’ and the ‘CHUV
’:

e-fishency
(https://www.e-fishency.ch/
) offers fish farmers a more environmentally friendly method of artificial reproduction. In 2020, the team comprising David Nusbaumer and Christian de Guttry (Faculty of Biology and Medicine UNIL
) received support from the UCreate3 (HUB) acceleration programme. In the spring of the same year, David Nusbaumer was awarded a CHF 100,000 ‘InnoTREK
’ grant (PACTT
) from the Swiss National Science Foundation (PACTT
).

Jawslab
(https://www.jawslab.science/
) provides digital support to facilitate the organisation and sharing of scientific data. The PACTT
supported Benjamin Boury Jamot (Faculty of Biology and Medicine UNIL
) with the InnoTREK
-digitale (PACTT
) grant of CHF 20,000 in the spring of 2019. In 2020, the team comprising Benjamin Boury Jamot and Anthony Carrard received support from the UCreate3 (HUB) acceleration programme.

Sleep Sensor
enables the monitoring and identification of sleep parameters with a view to improving sleep, thanks to a new, innovative measurement system. In 2020, the project lead, Shanaz Diessler (Faculty of Biology and Medicine UNIL
), was the winner of the ‘Best Project Challenge’ at the UCreate2 (HUB) exploration workshop. In 2021, Shanaz was awarded a CHF 100,000 grant from the PACTT
under the ‘InnoTREK
’ scheme (FIT
& PACTT
).

MiniMarrow
involves a new therapeutic approach for patients with haematological malignancies. It reduces the number of platelet transfusions to one injection per month instead of eight. In 2021, Josefine Tratwal (Faculty of Biology and Medicine UNIL
) received support from the UCreate3 (HUB) acceleration programme. In the same year, she was awarded the ‘InnoTREK
’ grant (FIT
& PACTT
) worth CHF 100,000.

According to Anne Headon, Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation HUB at theUNIL
, “It is important to establish an ecosystem that enables researchers at theUNIL
and the CHUV
with entrepreneurial projects to see them through to fruition. This requires a combination of entrepreneurial expertise, coaching and financial support. Since the launch of the HUB, and more specifically the UCreate activation programmes in 2020, we have enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with the ‘PACTT
’, with a great synergy that enables us to achieve this. I look forward to continuing this collaboration, which helps to support our region’s innovation ecosystem.”

About the Entrepreneurship and Innovation HUB

Launched in 2019, the HUB has three key objectives: a) to foster an entrepreneurial spirit amongst members of the entire ‘UNIL
’ community (students, researchers, alumni and staff) through an inclusive, interdisciplinary and collaborative approach; b) to equip them with entrepreneurial skills to support them in their professional lives; c) to support them in developing their entrepreneurial projects through the UCreate programme.
