InnoSTEP helps research teams validate the feasibility of a physical invention, reduce technical
risk and generate the evidence needed for the next licensing, funding or venture milestone.
Research-based applicants
Open to researchers, postdocs and eligible PhD candidates affiliated with UNIL or CHUV with a disclosed invention.
Physical invention
The project must focus on a tangible invention such as a device, material, assay, tool or technical prototype.
Clear validation question
The project should address a clearly defined technical or feasibility risk.
Host support and execution readiness
The project must have the required laboratory support, access to equipment and a realistic validation plan.
Amount
Up to CHF 40,000 for prototyping, materials, testing, subcontracting and expert validation support.
Duration
Up to 12 months to address the key technical question required to advance the invention.
Technical validation
The program focuses on demonstrating feasibility through experiments, prototype development or early performance data.
Expected deliverables
A validated Proof of Concept with documented results supporting the next licensing, transfer or funding decision.
Applications are accepted throughout the year and reviewed during two selection sessions, in spring and autumn.
